Regioneo presented at the SAFE annual conference in Brussels

SAFE conference

On 20 November 2025, Regioneo was presented at the SAFE annual conference in Brussels, a key event for the European players committed to more sustainable food and reducing food waste.

Alongside representatives of the European Parliament, DG Health, DG Agri and numerous national and European organisations, our solution provided concrete examples of the following how digital can help producers limit their losses and make better use of their harvests.

Regioneo, a practical solution for producers

At the conference, Regioneo demonstrated how its turnkey e-commerce platform enables producers fruit and vegetable retailers to sell through short distribution channels, manage their unsold produce more effectively and promote their anti-gaspi offers.

Catalogue management, prices per kilo or per piece, withdrawal slots, monitoring of use-by dates, highlighting of «ugly» or short-dated products: the aim is simple, to give producers practical tools to reduce losses and boost their income.

This presentation is a continuation of the European SISTERS project, funded by Horizon 2020, Regioneo is an operational unit dedicated to producers.

In the experimental phase, 119 fruit and vegetable producers took part and tested the solution, confirming its potential to limit unsold goods while developing local sales.

Regioneo scheduled for commercial launch in the first half of 2026

Feedback from this pilot phase shows that better organisation of sales, greater visibility of products that need to be sold quickly and fine-tuned stock management are helping to significantly reduce the volumes wasted in production.

On the strength of these results, we announced at the SAFE conference on commercial launch of Regioneo in the first half of 2026, The aim is to make the solution available to a growing number of producers throughout Europe.

This scale-up marks an important step: from proof of concept to operational tool, Regioneo is positioning itself as an ally on the ground for farms who want to sell better, waste less and strengthen their relationship with consumers.

Policy Brief to help European policies evolve

To mark the conference, a Policy Brief was distributed to European decision-makers, In the run-up to the Waste Framework Review scheduled for 2027.

Prepared by SAFE as part of the SISTERS project, with input from Regioneo, this document sets out a number of recommendations for reducing levels of waste at the production stage.

Among the key points highlighted:

  • The need for better organisation of unsold food donations on a European scale, to bring them into line with the reality of an agri-food market that is already largely integrated, with production and consumption areas structured on an EU scale.
  • The need to adjust tax incentives for companies that donate their unsold goods to food banks, in line with the average levels of unsold goods observed. Today, many countries cap tax credits at 0.5% or 1% of turnover, whereas unsold goods can represent up to 10% of production or sales for some players.

The aim of these proposals is to create a fairer framework that provides incentives for producers and distributors who are committed to combating food waste.

Regioneo's participation in the SAFE conference confirms the importance of linking innovation in the field with changes in public policy.

Alongside SISTERS partners, European institutions and committed organisations, we want to contribute to a more efficient, leaner and fairer food chain for producers and consumers alike.
